Beechy Rail Trail
Ride the full rail trail from Colac to Beech Forest – and back! 90 km of rainforest riding on one of the best rail trails in Victoria. A one day small group tour will have riding through farmland, rainforest and small towns of the Otways. Tour with an experienced local guide and experience the local hospitality. A delicious lunch at a local cafe is included.

Starting out from Colac in Victoria’s west, the Beechy Rail Trail follows the old railway line that was used to transport timber from the mills in the Otway Ranges to town.
The trail follows farmland on the outskirts of Colac before heading into forested trail. The gradient is very gentle with a few steep pinches along the way. There are plenty of interesting landmarks which your guides will tell you about the area.
Our first stop on the trail is Gellibrand where we visit the well-equipped cafe. We stop there to refuel, grab a coffee and head on. Don’t forget to have the Rocky Road! As we get closer to Beech Forest the trail narrows and passes through old growth rainforest with tall timber and tree ferns on both sides of the trail.
After approximately 45km we head back into farmland and arrive at The Ridge Cafe at Beech Forest. The Ridge cafe uses fresh produce from the local region and is famous for their open breakie sandwich. Sue from the Ridge prepares our lunch which gives us plenty of energy to start the trip back to Colac – mostly downhill!
